Where it came from
Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a long-running series of Italian horror comics published by Edifumetto during the 1970s and 1980s. These publications were characteristic of the fumetti neri genre, which leveraged provocative covers and gothic themes to appeal to an adult audience during a period of significant cultural shifts in Italy.
The series was famously managed by Renzo Barbieri, who curated a stable of artists known for combining lurid aesthetic tropes with supernatural narratives. Issue number 87 fits into the wider context of this editorial strategy, prioritizing atmospheric, macabre storytelling and distinctive cover art that served as the primary marketing tool for kiosks throughout the region.
