Oltretomba Speciaal #90

Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a popular Italian line of gothic horror and erotic comics published throughout the 1970s. These pocket-sized volumes, often referred to as fumetti neri, emerged during a period of significant cultural appetite for transgressive and sensationalist literature in Italy, catering to readers who sought dark, atmospheric narratives characterized by supernatural themes and stylized illustrations.

The aesthetic of the series leaned heavily into the dark romanticism and pulp horror sensibilities prevalent in European comics of the era. The creators typically utilized anonymous or pseudonymous artists to maintain a consistent house style, focusing on high-contrast black-and-white ink work designed for mass-market appeal. Upon their release, these issues were viewed as ephemeral entertainment, though they have since gained recognition among comic historians for their distinct reflection of the social anxieties and pulp sensibilities of 1970s Italy.
