Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in 1970, Our Fighting Forces #124 is a significant entry in the company's long-running war anthology series. During this era, DC was shifting its approach to war comics, moving away from purely propaganda-driven narratives toward more complex, character-focused storytelling. This issue is notable for being part of the transition period before the series became the exclusive home for The Losers, a band of soldiers who provided a grittier, more serialized perspective on the realities of combat.
The cover and interior work reflect the house style of DC's late Silver Age and early Bronze Age, emphasizing dynamic action panels and high-stakes military drama. Artists and writers contributing to this title during the 1970s often drew inspiration from contemporary films and the shifting public sentiment regarding the Vietnam War, resulting in stories that grappled with themes of camaraderie and the psychological toll of conflict. The series remains respected by historians for its technical depictions of weaponry and its dedication to the 'war story' genre.
