Our Fighting Forces #150

Our Fighting Forces #150, published by DC Comics in 1974, serves as a pivotal entry in the long-running war anthology series. This issue is most significant for marking the transition of the title character, the Losers—comprised of Captain Storm, Gunner, Sarge, and Johnny Cloud—into the hands of writer and artist Jack Kirby. After his return to DC from Marvel, Kirby took creative control of the book, moving the tone from standard combat narratives toward his signature style of cosmic scale and high-intensity action.

Kirby’s creative direction on the series was an attempt to revitalize a waning genre by infusing it with his own brand of explosive, kinetic storytelling. By positioning the Losers in increasingly bizarre and high-stakes scenarios, he departed from the grounded realism typical of earlier war comics. While some purists of the genre initially found the shift jarring, the run has since been critically re-evaluated as a highlight of 1970s bronze age experimentation, showcasing Kirby’s ability to inject profound visual energy into any narrative framework.
