Our Fighting Forces #151

Published by DC Comics in 1974, Our Fighting Forces #151 marks the beginning of Jack Kirby's celebrated run on the title. Kirby took over both writing and illustration duties for the series, shifting the focus to his creation, the Loser, a band of soldiers plagued by perpetual misfortune during World War II. This transition represented a significant creative pivot for the long-running war comic, injecting Kirby's signature kinetic energy and grandiose storytelling style into a genre typically defined by more traditional, grounded narratives.

The reception of this issue and the subsequent run is regarded as a hallmark of 1970s bronze age comics, showcasing Kirby's unrestrained creative vision during his tenure at DC. By blending gritty combat themes with the existential tension of the protagonists' recurring bad luck, Kirby elevated the series beyond standard war tropes. The art style, characterized by dense, powerful compositions and dramatic action sequences, remains a definitive example of his aesthetic approach during this prolific period of his career.
