Our Fighting Forces #167

Our Fighting Forces #167, released by DC Comics in 1976, serves as a pivotal entry in the long-running war anthology series. By the mid-1970s, the title had shifted its focus to feature The Losers—a group of soldiers comprising Captain Storm, Johnny Cloud, Gunner, and Sarge—who were characterized by their tragic inability to survive their missions. This specific issue was crafted during an era where DC was experimenting with grittier storytelling and higher stakes, moving away from the more lighthearted approach of earlier war comics.

The creative direction for this period of the series was heavily influenced by writer and artist Jack Kirby, who brought a dynamic, kinetic sensibility to the war genre before his departure. Following his tenure, various artists and writers continued to refine the desperate, suspense-driven tone of the book. The issue is remembered by collectors as a quintessential example of the Bronze Age of comics, appreciated for its character-focused drama and the distinctive visual style that defined DC's war titles of that decade.
