Our Fighting Forces #171

Our Fighting Forces #171 was published by DC Comics in early 1977. This issue represents a significant period in the title's history, as it was during this era that the series shifted its focus away from traditional war stories to spotlight the adventures of Jack Kirby's 'The Losers.' By the time this issue hit the stands, Kirby had concluded his prolific run on the title, and the book was transitioning under new creative teams while maintaining the established tone of gritty, character-driven mercenary combat.

The issue features artwork and storytelling that reflect the house style of DC’s war line in the late seventies. The design of the series during this phase was heavily influenced by the aftermath of the Bronze Age experimentation, moving away from purely propaganda-style narratives toward more complex, serialized storytelling. The series was designed to appeal to readers who appreciated the darker, more cynical perspective on conflict that gained traction following the Vietnam War, positioning these characters as enduring, weary soldiers trapped in constant cycles of battle.
