Peter Cannon Thunderbolt #1

Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt #1 was published by Charlton Comics in 1966, marking the character's first appearance during the Silver Age of comic books. Created by writer and artist Pete Morisi, the character was intended to be an adventurous, globetrotting hero with a focus on disciplined martial arts and intellectual prowess, standing out as a departure from the more whimsical or standard superhero tropes of the era.

Morisi’s work on the title is characterized by a distinct, clean aesthetic that emphasized the influence of Eastern philosophy on the protagonist. While the series did not achieve the same mainstream dominance as contemporary offerings from Marvel or DC, it gained a dedicated cult following for its unique tone and its later influence on the deconstruction of the superhero genre, most notably serving as a primary inspiration for the character Ozymandias in Alan Moore's Watchmen.
