Where it came from
Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #2 was published in 1992 as part of the DC Comics revival of the character, originally created by Pete Morisi for Charlton Comics in the 1960s. This series sought to modernize the concept of the mysterious, monk-trained superhero, positioning him within the broader DC Universe while retaining the philosophical underpinnings and esoteric abilities that defined his earlier appearances.
The issue features the creative work of writer Michael Murphy and artist David DeVries. The design and narrative direction aimed to balance superhero tropes with introspective, cerebral themes, reflecting an era of comics that frequently explored the psychological costs of vigilantism. While it remains a niche entry in the superhero canon, it is appreciated by collectors for its role in maintaining the legacy of Morisi’s distinctively stoic and meditative protagonist.
