Pokémon: The Electric Tale of Pikachu #3

Released in 1998 by VIZ Media, this issue is part of the four-volume manga series The Electric Tale of Pikachu, illustrated by Toshinobu Matsuri. The series was designed to adapt the early storylines of the Pokémon anime for a Western audience while offering a slightly different, more concise narrative perspective. Matsuri’s art style departed from the show’s animation, opting for a clean, expressive manga aesthetic that helped establish the franchise's visual identity in the United States during the late nineties.

This specific issue, titled 'Clefairy Tale', follows the series' trend of adapting key moments from the Kanto region journey. It was received as a bridge for fans who were transitioning between the video games and the television series, offering a tangible print medium that could be easily collected. The series is now regarded as a nostalgic touchstone for the original Pokémon boom, reflecting the editorial efforts of the time to translate complex Japanese media properties into accessible, episodic comic formats.
