Where it came from
Project Riese, an underground comic series centered on the historical mystery of the Nazi-era construction project in the Owl Mountains, emerged as a niche exploration of speculative fiction and historical trauma. The fourth issue continues the series' signature blend of dark, atmospheric storytelling, utilizing stark black-and-white illustrations to evoke the claustrophobic and secretive nature of the subterranean complex.
The creative team behind the series focused on balancing meticulous research into the real-world Riese structures with elements of the supernatural to heighten the tension of the narrative. Upon its release, the issue was recognized by small-press enthusiasts for its deliberate pacing and its commitment to depicting the haunting legacy of the location rather than relying on conventional action tropes.
