Reign of the Zodiac #6

Reign of the Zodiac was a twelve-issue limited series published by DC Comics beginning in 2003, envisioned as a modern reimagining of the classic Zodiac superheroes first introduced in the 1970s. The series was written by Jai Nitz and featured artwork primarily by Cliff Richards. The project emerged from a desire within DC to dust off and overhaul obscure, underutilized properties, grounding them in a more contemporary, gritty narrative framework that explored the mythological roots of these characters.

The aesthetic of the series leaned into a fusion of cosmic mystery and traditional superhero tropes, with Cliff Richards delivering a clean, dynamic style that sought to balance the high-concept nature of the Zodiac archetypes with accessible character drama. Despite the creative team’s efforts to elevate the source material, the series struggled to build a lasting foothold in a crowded marketplace, ultimately remaining a niche entry in the DC archives that is remembered more by dedicated completionists and fans of early 2000s experimentations than by a broad readership.
