Sam Slade Robo-Hunter #30

Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter, originated in the British sci-fi anthology 2000 AD in 1978, created by writer John Wagner and artist Ian Gibson. The series satirized the tropes of hard-boiled detective fiction by placing a cynical, cigar-chomping private investigator in a future where robots were ubiquitous. The narrative blend of gritty noir archetypes and slapstick, high-tech absurdity resonated with the publication's rebellious, irreverent editorial voice.

Issue 30 appears during the middle tenure of the series, a period marked by Gibson's highly detailed, idiosyncratic line work that defined the visual language of the strip. The design focused on dense, cluttered futuristic environments and expressive, often grotesque character caricatures that helped distinguish the series from its more earnest peers. It remains a representative example of 2000 AD's Golden Age aesthetic, reflecting the collaborative creative friction between Wagner's biting scripts and Gibson's meticulous visual world-building.
