Sam Slade Robo-Hunter #6

Sam Slade: Robo-Hunter premiered in the pages of 2000 AD in 1978, emerging from the imaginative surge of British science fiction comics during the late 1970s. Created by writer John Wagner and artist Ian Gibson, the series was designed as a comedic, noir-inspired satire that poked fun at the robotic tropes common in the era's science fiction. Issue 6 serves as a continuation of these initial adventures, capturing the gritty yet humorous aesthetic of a private investigator navigating a world saturated with malfunctioning mechanical life.

The visual identity of this issue is defined by Ian Gibson’s expressive, highly detailed line work, which became synonymous with the character’s look. Gibson focused on creating a lived-in, chaotic atmosphere that contrasted with the sleekness often associated with robot stories. Upon its release, the series was well-received for its witty scripts and distinctively frantic visual style, solidifying the Robo-Hunter as a staple of the 2000 AD lineup and a noteworthy example of the medium's creative evolution during the period.
