Secrets of Haunted House #21

Secrets of Haunted House was a long-running horror anthology series published by DC Comics during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Issue number 21, released in late 1979, arrived during a period when DC was leaning heavily into gothic, supernatural storytelling to compete with the popular horror magazines of the era. The title served as a showcase for a rotating cast of writers and artists who focused on eerie, self-contained tales often framed by host characters who guided readers through the macabre narratives.

The aesthetic of this period in DC horror was defined by a shift toward more detailed, atmospheric line work and atmospheric paneling designed to heighten suspense. Artists like Romeo Tanghal and writers such as George Kashdan frequently contributed to this era of the series. While these issues were generally intended as mass-market pulp entertainment, they are now viewed by collectors as representative of the late Bronze Age of comics, balancing traditional campfire-style ghost stories with the slightly grittier visual sensibilities that permeated DC's mystery line at the time.
