Secrets of Haunted House #22

Secrets of Haunted House was launched by DC Comics in 1975 as part of a wave of horror-themed anthology titles that defined the company's output during the Bronze Age of comics. Issue number 22, released in early 1980, followed the tradition of featuring various short, macabre tales curated by a framing host. This era of DC horror was characterized by an emphasis on atmospheric tension and morality plays, serving as a successor to the darker, more visceral stories of the pre-Comics Code era.

The visual identity of this issue reflects the collaborative effort typical of the period, featuring artwork from contributors such as Alex Niño, whose distinctive, fluid, and detailed illustrative style became a hallmark of the series. The stories within the book were designed to balance gothic tropes with a slightly more polished aesthetic common to DC's production standards at the time. While horror anthologies faced shifting market demands during the late 1970s, this title remained a significant showcase for talent who excelled in moody, expressive narrative art.
