Secrets of Haunted House #44

Secrets of Haunted House was a long-running anthology horror series published by DC Comics during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Issue number 44, released in the early 1980s, fits into the publisher's strategy of maintaining the popularity of suspense and supernatural-themed narratives that had defined the era’s 'mystery' titles. These comics were largely defined by the efforts of DC’s editorial team and a revolving roster of creators who leaned into the dark, twist-ending formats popularized by earlier horror magazines.

The visual identity of this issue, like many in the series, reflects the house style of DC’s mystery line, featuring atmospheric cover art and interior work designed to evoke classic gothic tropes. The stories within were intended to provide self-contained, eerie experiences for readers who favored the suspense genre. At the time of its release, the title served as a staple of the comic book racks, catering to the enduring market demand for horror anthologies before the industry shifted toward more serialized, character-focused storytelling.
