Sergio Aragonés Groo the Wanderer #114

Groo the Wanderer #114 was published during the Image Comics run of the long-running satirical sword-and-sorcery series. Created by Sergio Aragonés and writer Mark Evanier in the early 1980s, the series centers on an incompetent but physically formidable barbarian whose wanderings almost invariably lead to catastrophe. By the time this issue arrived in the late 1990s, the title had already cemented its reputation as a staple of independent comics, known for its consistent humor and Aragonés's distinctive, bustling art style.

The design of the series relies on Aragonés's signature wordless gags in the margins, a feature that set it apart from contemporary action-heavy comics. Through years of shifts between publishers like Marvel's Epic Comics and Image, the creative team maintained a focus on lampooning classic fantasy tropes and human folly. This specific issue reflects the era's transition in independent publishing, remaining faithful to the established lighthearted yet cynical tone that defined the character's enduring appeal.
