Sergio Aragonés Groo the Wanderer #116

Groo the Wanderer issue #116 was published in 1993 during the title's long-running tenure at Epic Comics, an imprint of Marvel. Created by the legendary cartoonist Sergio Aragonés and writer Mark Evanier, the series follows a dim-witted but incredibly lethal barbarian who unintentionally causes chaos wherever he travels. By the time this issue was released, the character had cemented his status as a satirical staple in the industry, blending slapstick humor with a biting critique of classic fantasy tropes.

The visual identity of the book is defined entirely by Aragonés's distinctive, fluid, and highly detailed art style. Unlike many other comic artists of the era, Aragonés handled both the pencil work and the storytelling, often inserting tiny 'background gags' in the margins that became a hallmark of the series. This issue is representative of the collaborative rapport between Aragonés and Evanier, maintaining the lighthearted yet sharply scripted tone that earned the series a devoted following and numerous industry awards over several decades.
