Where it came from
Released by Dark Horse Comics in June 2002, Star Wars Tales #12 served as part of an anthology series designed to explore corners of the galaxy outside the primary film narratives. This specific issue is widely recognized for its inclusion of the short story 'Into the Great Unknown,' which depicts a serendipitous encounter between Han Solo and Chewbacca and a pre-industrial North American civilization, resulting in the iconic discovery of a crashed Millennium Falcon by local inhabitants.
The story was written by W. Haden Blackman with artwork by Sean Murphy. The creative team aimed to blend the science fiction tropes of the Star Wars universe with historical pulp fiction, effectively reimagining the franchise's most famous ship as a legendary artifact lost in Earth's past. The issue was received with notable intrigue by the fanbase, as it managed to bridge the gap between speculative fiction and archeological myth in a way that remains a popular curiosity within the expanded universe.
