Where it came from
Released in 1994 by Dark Horse Comics, this issue is part of the six-part Dark Lords of the Sith miniseries, which serves as a foundational piece of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Set thousands of years before the events of the original film trilogy, the narrative explores the rise of Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma, detailing their fall to the dark side. It was a pivotal project for Dark Horse, as it helped establish the Old Republic era, a setting that would later become a cornerstone for video games and literature.
The series was written by Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson, with interior art primarily by Chris Gossett. The design and visual style aimed to distinguish the ancient past of the galaxy from the established aesthetics of the films, introducing unique ship designs and archaic Jedi lore. The series was well-received by fans of the time for its ambitious scale and its willingness to delve into the complex mythology of the Sith, eventually earning a reputation as a classic of 1990s Star Wars comic publishing.
