Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi: The Freedon Nadd Uprising #1

Released in 1993 by Dark Horse Comics, The Freedon Nadd Uprising #1 serves as the inaugural installment of a two-part miniseries that expanded the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Set approximately 4,000 years before the events of the original film trilogy, the narrative explores the historical conflict on the moon of Onderon. It was written by Tom Veitch and illustrated by Christian Gossett, who utilized a distinct, atmospheric art style that sought to distinguish the ancient Sith era from the sleek aesthetic of the Rebellion and Imperial periods.

The series emerged during a period of creative resurgence for Star Wars comics, building upon the foundations laid by the earlier Dark Empire series. It was designed to bridge the gap between historical Sith lore and the active threats facing the Jedi Order of the Old Republic. Upon its release, the series was received as a significant contribution to the mythos, lauded by readers for deepening the backstories of characters like Ulic Qel-Droma and providing a darker, more philosophical look at the nature of the Force.
