Strikeforce: Morituri #12

Strikeforce: Morituri #12, published in 1987 by Marvel Comics, serves as a pivotal conclusion to the series' initial story arc. Created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Brent Anderson, the title explored a dystopian future where humanity develops superpowers at the cost of inevitable, premature death. The series stood out during the 1980s for its mature, somber tone and its focus on the existential dread of characters who knew their expiration date from the moment they gained their abilities.

The visual storytelling of issue #12 reflects the collaborative effort to maintain the series' high-stakes atmosphere. Brent Anderson’s work on the title was noted for its grounded, gritty aesthetic, which helped contrast the superhuman feats with the visceral reality of terminal illness. Upon release, the series earned a dedicated following for its departure from traditional superhero tropes, as it prioritized character-driven drama and philosophical inquiry over standard villain-of-the-week narratives.
