Strikeforce: Morituri #7

Strikeforce: Morituri was launched by Marvel Comics in 1986, emerging during a period of experimentation within the industry as creators pushed toward darker, more character-driven narratives. Created by Peter B. Gillis and Brent Anderson, the series explores a grim future where humanity defends itself against an alien invasion using a technology that grants superpowers but guarantees the user's death within one year. Issue number seven continues this exploration, deepening the tragic paradox of heroes who are essentially walking dead.

The visual identity of the series was defined by Brent Anderson's grounded, gritty aesthetic, which was essential for grounding the high-concept science fiction in human stakes. By the release of the seventh issue, the creative team had established a distinct tone that prioritized the psychological toll of the Morituri process over traditional superhero tropes. The series was noted for its willingness to permanently kill off its cast members, a narrative risk that garnered it a dedicated, albeit niche, cult following among readers who favored mature storytelling.
