Strikeforce: Morituri #14

Strikeforce: Morituri #14 was published by Marvel Comics in 1987 as part of a unique science fiction series created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Brent Anderson. The narrative focused on a group of volunteers who receive superpowers to fight an alien invasion, knowing that the process will inevitably kill them within a year. This issue continued the darker, character-driven themes that set the series apart from standard superhero tropes of the era, exploring the existential dread and psychological toll of a terminal sentence.

The visual aesthetic of the series was defined by the transition from Brent Anderson’s original vision to other contributors, maintaining a grounded, gritty style that emphasized the fragility of the protagonists. Issue #14 served as a pivotal chapter in the ongoing struggle against the alien Horde, focusing on the internal power dynamics and personal sacrifices of the squad. The series was well-regarded by critics for its ambitious premise and subversion of typical heroic mortality, securing a dedicated, if niche, following among fans of 1980s speculative fiction.
