Strikeforce: Morituri #4

Strikeforce: Morituri #4, released in 1986 by Marvel Comics, is part of a groundbreaking science fiction series created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Brent Anderson. Set in a future where Earth is occupied by an alien race, the story centers on human volunteers who undergo a scientific process to gain superhuman abilities, knowing that the cost is an inevitable and early death. This issue continues the series' thematic exploration of mortality and sacrifice, establishing a tone that was notably darker and more sophisticated than much of the mainstream superhero content produced during that decade.

The series design and visual narrative, helmed by Anderson, emphasize the psychological toll of the characters' doomed existence. The creative team aimed to subvert typical superhero tropes by highlighting the physical decay and emotional strain of the protagonists. Upon its initial run, the title was praised by critics for its innovative premise and character-driven storytelling, standing out as a unique entry in the 1980s comic landscape that prioritized long-term narrative consequences over status-quo preservation.
