Where it came from
Published in December 1968, The Amazing Spider-Man #67 represents a classic installment from the Silver Age of comic books. It features the creative team of writer Stan Lee and artist John Romita Sr., who had by this time solidified the visual identity of the series. The narrative continues the high-stakes soap opera style that defined the era, pitting Peter Parker against the robotic menace of the Mesmero-controlled Mysterio, while navigating the interpersonal tensions of his college life and his burgeoning relationship with Gwen Stacy.
The cover art, iconic for its dramatic rendering of Mysterio, reflects the polished, emotive house style that Romita Sr. brought to Marvel Comics. During this period, the series was highly regarded for its ability to balance lighthearted action with the personal anxieties of its protagonist, a formula that helped ensure the title remained a cornerstone of the Marvel Universe. The issue is remembered by collectors for its contribution to the ongoing development of the Spider-Man rogues gallery and its standard-setting artwork of the late 1960s.
