The Books of Magic #24

The Books of Magic series emerged in the early 1990s as a cornerstone of DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, exploring the magical underpinnings of the DC Universe through the eyes of the young protagonist, Timothy Hunter. Issue #24, published in 1996, serves as a distinct chapter within the series' long-running narrative, which focused on the protagonist's struggle to navigate his destiny as the world's greatest potential mage while balancing the complexities of adolescence and hidden supernatural forces.

The issue features the creative work of writer John Ney Rieber, who took over the series following Neil Gaiman's original miniseries, and artist Peter Gross. The aesthetic approach during this era emphasized a blend of dark urban fantasy and intricate, dreamlike visuals, reflecting the darker tone favored by the Vertigo imprint. The series was generally well-received for its literary ambition and its commitment to character-driven storytelling, cementing its status as a cult favorite among readers who preferred mature, thematic depth over traditional superhero tropes.
