The Fury of Firestorm #36

Published by DC Comics in June 1985, The Fury of Firestorm #36 emerged during a pivotal era for the character, occurring shortly before the massive continuity shift of the Crisis on Infinite Earths. At this time, the series was scripted by Gerry Conway, who had been instrumental in shaping the hero's narrative since the title's relaunch in 1982. This issue features cover art by Rafael Kayanan, whose work was emblematic of the transition from the Bronze Age to the more stylized aesthetic of the mid-eighties comic market.

The story reflects the series' commitment to blending domestic drama with high-stakes science fiction. By this point in the run, the creative team focused heavily on the dual-identity struggle of Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein, a dynamic that distinguished Firestorm from many of his contemporaries. The issue was received as a standard but solid entry in the series, capturing the specific tone of DC's output just prior to the sweeping changes that redefined the company's multiverse.
