The Fury of Firestorm #35

The Fury of Firestorm #35 was published by DC Comics in May 1985 during a period when the series was firmly established under the direction of writer Gerry Conway. This issue arrived in the mid-1980s, an era when the title explored the complex dual-nature of its protagonist—the merged entity of Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein—while navigating the geopolitical tensions of the Cold War. As a staple of the DC lineup, the series benefited from the long-running creative synergy between Conway and various artists who sought to balance teenage drama with high-stakes superhero action.

The interior art for this period of the series was largely handled by Rafael Kayanan, who brought a grounded, character-focused aesthetic to the title. The cover art for issue #35 was provided by artist Joe Brozowski. The design team aimed to emphasize the internal friction of the Firestorm character, often focusing on the contrast between Raymond’s youthful perspective and Stein’s academic, mature outlook. Upon release, the series was well-regarded for its consistency and its willingness to treat the fusion dynamic as a genuine narrative challenge rather than a simple gimmick.
