The Incredible Hulk #336

The Incredible Hulk #336, released in October 1987, emerged during a pivotal era for the character under the creative guidance of writer Peter David. This issue represents a significant turning point in the series, as it continues the narrative exploration of the grey-skinned Hulk persona, colloquially known as Joe Fixit. The story arc was crafted to move away from the traditional savage behemoth tropes, instead focusing on the more cunning and cynical aspects of the character's psyche, which allowed David to experiment with themes of identity and morality.

The interior artwork for this period was provided by Todd McFarlane, whose distinctive, hyper-detailed style began to take shape during this tenure. McFarlane’s visual approach, characterized by expressive anatomy and intricate web-like shading, redefined the visual language of the Hulk and helped solidify the title's popularity. At the time of its release, the issue was well-regarded by readers for its sharp dialogue and the refreshing shift in tone, cementing it as a foundational entry in Peter David's legendary long-term run on the title.
