The Incredible Hulk #393

The Incredible Hulk issue #393, published in May 1992, is a significant chapter in the long-running series during a transformative era for the character. This period is best known for the run by writer Peter David, who spent over a decade redefining the Hulk by integrating the personalities of Bruce Banner and his various manifestations into a single, cohesive, and intelligent being. The issue serves as part of a broader narrative arc where the character is grappling with his complex psychological state and the societal repercussions of his existence.

The interior art for this period was primarily provided by Dale Keown, whose dynamic and muscular rendering of the Hulk became the definitive look for the early 1990s. The design and aesthetic reflected the gritty, high-contrast comic book style of the time, emphasizing the character's physical power while simultaneously highlighting the internal struggle between the man and the monster. It remains a notable example of how Marvel balanced traditional superhero action with character-driven drama during an experimental phase for the publisher.
