The Marvel Saga The Official History of the Marvel Universe #12

Released in October 1986, Marvel Saga #12 serves as a pivotal installment in a twenty-five-issue limited series designed to synthesize and chronologically organize the sprawling history of the Marvel Universe. Conceived by writer Peter Sanderson, the series functioned as a comprehensive guide for readers struggling to navigate decades of complex continuity, offering a cohesive narrative thread that bridged the gap between the publisher's Golden Age origins and its modern iterations.

The visual identity of the series relied heavily on the careful curation of existing comic art, which was reformatted to illustrate Sanderson’s narrative. Issue 12 specifically leans into the mid-eighties aesthetic of Marvel’s editorial strategy, emphasizing structural clarity. The series was well-received by fans at the time, recognized for its utility as a reference tool before the advent of digital databases, and it remains a significant artifact of Marvel’s attempts to standardize its own internal lore.
