The Marvel Saga The Official History of the Marvel Universe #5

Marvel Saga was launched in 1985 as a 25-issue monthly limited series designed to provide a cohesive, chronological history of the Marvel Universe. Conceived by Peter Sanderson, the series aimed to bridge decades of fragmented continuity, offering readers a structured narrative guide to the complex origins and interconnections of Marvel’s characters. Issue number 5, released in early 1986, focused primarily on the formation of the Fantastic Four and the early space-age origins of the Marvel pantheon.

The visual identity of the series was defined by the reuse of classic iconic panels from Marvel's history, curated and contextualized by Sanderson's meticulous editorial work. By blending summary text with original artwork from the foundational Silver Age stories, the series functioned as both a reference tool and a nostalgic retrospective for long-term fans. It remains a significant milestone in the history of comic book annotation, having successfully streamlined the intricate lore established by writers and artists like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
