The Occult Files Of Dr. Spektor #9

The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor debuted in 1973 under Gold Key Comics, emerging during a period when the Comics Code Authority had loosened restrictions on supernatural subject matter. Created by writer Donald F. Glut and artist Jesse Santos, the series focused on Adam Spektor, an occult investigator who navigated a world of vampires, ghosts, and mythical beasts. Issue #9, published in 1974, continued the series' signature blend of gothic atmosphere and adventure, reflecting the mid-1970s fascination with paranormal themes that permeated pop culture at the time.

Jesse Santos was instrumental in defining the aesthetic of the series, utilizing a detailed, illustrative style that prioritized mood and shadow to suit the horror-adjacent tone of the books. The title was well-regarded for its longevity in a market dominated by superhero comics, remaining a niche but respected entry in the Gold Key catalog. Readers of the era generally praised the series for its consistent creative direction and its willingness to treat occult tropes with a sense of grounded narrative purpose rather than mere shock value.
