The Pink Panther #18

The Pink Panther #18 was published by Gold Key Comics during the height of the character's popularity in the 1970s. Following the massive success of the animated theatrical shorts and the iconic opening credits of the Blake Edwards films, Western Publishing sought to capitalize on the character's appeal by expanding him into serialized comic books. These issues often featured whimsical, dialogue-free pantomime adventures that mirrored the tone of the animated shorts.

The interior art for the Gold Key run was handled by various studio artists tasked with capturing the distinct, minimalist aesthetic established by Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt. The designs prioritized clean lines and expressive body language to translate the character's silent, sophisticated humor to the static page. While primarily intended for a younger audience, these comics are now regarded as charming artifacts of mid-century animation tie-in culture, noted for their bright color palettes and adherence to the character's mischievous persona.
