The Pink Panther #33

The Pink Panther #33 was published in 1977 as part of the long-running Gold Key Comics series, which adapted the iconic animated character created by Friz Freleng and David DePatie. Following the immense popularity of the 1963 film and the subsequent animated shorts, the comic books were designed to capture the slapstick, wordless charm of the television cartoons for a younger readership. Gold Key utilized a stable of house artists to maintain a consistent, lighthearted aesthetic that emphasized visual gags and the panther's unflappable personality.

This particular issue emerged during a period when the character had become a staple of pop culture, appearing in everything from television commercials to comic strips. The editorial direction for the series focused on expanding the panther’s world beyond the standard 'Inspector' dynamic, often placing him in surreal or mundane situations that required clever, silent problem-solving. While the comic was intended as mass-market entertainment for children, the creative output is now regarded by collectors as a distinct mid-century artifact of the transition from theatrical shorts to syndicated print media.
