Where it came from
Ultimate Fantastic Four #28 was published in 2006 as part of Marvel Comics' Ultimate line, an imprint launched in the early 2000s to modernize classic superhero origins for a new generation of readers. This specific issue is notable for being the final installment of the 'President Thor' arc, a narrative that integrated elements of the Ultimate Marvel universe's shifting political landscapes and alternate reality tropes.
The issue was written by Mark Millar with art by Greg Land. Millar, known for his cinematic and often provocative storytelling style, aimed to subvert traditional hero dynamics by placing the Fantastic Four in the midst of global chaos. The visual direction leaned into Land's highly polished, photo-referenced aesthetic, which was a hallmark of his work during this period and intended to give the series a grounded, contemporary look that distinguished it from the core Marvel continuity.
