Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #100

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue 100, published by Dell Comics in 1961, represents a significant milestone in the long-running series featuring the iconic animated character. By the 1960s, the Woody Woodpecker comic had become a staple of the Dell and Gold Key catalogs, reflecting the transition of Lantz’s studio cartoons into the printed medium. This issue was part of the publisher's strategy to provide consistent, family-friendly humor content that mirrored the rapid-fire slapstick style familiar to television audiences of the era.

The creative direction for these mid-century issues was handled by an anonymous assembly of staff writers and artists at the Dell studio system, who prioritized character consistency over individual artistic branding. The aesthetic of issue 100 leans into the vibrant, simplified graphic style common to the Four Color era, designed to be immediately recognizable on newsstands. While individual creative credits for this specific issue are rarely documented, the work was received as a standard extension of the Lantz franchise, maintaining the character's legacy as a cornerstone of post-war American animation-to-print licensing.
