Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #99

Woody Woodpecker #99 was published during the mid-1950s under the Dell Comics banner, which held the licensing rights to the Walter Lantz Productions characters. This era of comic publishing focused on delivering lighthearted, episodic adventures for a younger demographic, capitalizing on the immense popularity of the Woody Woodpecker animated theatrical shorts that had become staples of the American cinema experience since the character's debut in 1940.

The interior artwork and storytelling in these issues typically adhered to the house style developed by the Western Publishing creative team. These creators were tasked with translating the frenetic, slapstick energy of the Lantz animation studio into a static, sequential format. While specific individual credits for issue #99 are often obscured by the anonymous production methods of the time, the series remains a quintessential example of the mid-century tie-in comic, valued by collectors today as a snapshot of a period when character-driven licensing defined the newsstand landscape.
