Where it came from
Web of Spider-Man #2 was published by Marvel Comics in May 1985 as the second installment of a new title intended to replace Marvel Team-Up. The series was designed to provide an additional venue for Spider-Man stories, allowing for a mix of solo adventures and guest appearances. This early period of the title aimed to capture the ongoing momentum of the character during the mid-eighties, a time defined by significant shifts in Spider-Man’s narrative direction.
The issue features a story written by Danny Fingeroth, with interior art by Jim Mooney and a cover illustrated by Charles Vess. The creative team leaned into the established aesthetic of the era, focusing on grounded, character-driven conflicts that were a hallmark of Spider-Man stories at the time. Upon its release, the issue was received as a standard entry in a burgeoning series, functioning primarily to maintain the consistent monthly presence of the wall-crawler in the comics market.
