Wonder Woman #90

Wonder Woman number 90 was published in 1994 during a transformative period for the character within the DC Universe. Following the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths reboot, this era of the series was characterized by a shift in tone as writer William Messner-Loebs explored more grounded, socially conscious narratives. This issue features the artistic contributions of Mike Deodato Jr., whose bold, dynamic style helped define the look of the series during the mid-nineties and attracted a new generation of readers to the title.

The issue is set against a backdrop of significant change for Diana, as she navigates the complexities of her role as an ambassador and warrior while grappling with external pressures on her home and mission. Deodato's illustrative approach during this run emphasized a more visceral and sometimes provocative aesthetic, which was a distinct departure from the classic depictions of the Amazon princess. While reception among long-time fans was varied due to the dramatic stylistic shift, the run remains a notable example of the experimental storytelling typical of DC Comics during the mid-1990s.
