Wonder Woman #87

Wonder Woman number 87 was published by DC Comics in January 1957. This era of the series falls within the Silver Age of comic books, a period characterized by a shift toward more science fiction-oriented narratives and the introduction of new editorial oversight following the implementation of the Comics Code Authority. The title was currently under the stewardship of editor Robert Kanigher, who was known for steering the character into whimsical and often melodramatic storylines that leaned heavily into the mythological and space-faring tropes popular at the time.

The cover and interior art were produced by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, a prolific creative team whose clean, dynamic style became a hallmark of DC's titles throughout the late 1950s and 1960s. Their work on this issue contributed to the enduring visual language of the character, balancing her traditional warrior roots with the pop-culture sensibilities of the mid-century. While the issue is primarily noted by historians as a quintessential example of the period's house style, it reflects the broader transition of the character as she moved further away from William Moulton Marston's original psychological inspirations toward more conventional superhero adventure formulas.
