Where it came from
The Bei figure, numbered 221 in the Pop! Asia series, was released as part of the Lion Dance Club collection. This series draws direct inspiration from the traditional Chinese lion dance, a form of folk performance often seen during Lunar New Year celebrations to bring good luck and prosperity. By integrating these cultural icons into the stylized aesthetic of Funko's Pop! design, the series aims to bridge contemporary vinyl collecting with heritage-based imagery.
The design of the figure adheres to the signature Funko aesthetic—a large head, simplified features, and a compact body—while incorporating intricate, colorful patterns reflective of the ornate costumes worn by performers in a traditional lion dance. The piece was produced to celebrate regional cultural motifs within the broader Pop! Asia line, reflecting the company’s efforts to diversify its thematic offerings for an international audience.
