Where it came from
The Bob's Big Boy Funko Pop, numbered 97 in the Ad Icons series, was created to celebrate the enduring legacy of the iconic American restaurant chain founded in 1936. The figure depicts the restaurant's famous mascot, a chubby boy in checkered overalls holding a burger, an image originally inspired by a young customer named Richard Woodruff. This stylized vinyl representation reflects the mid-century Americana aesthetic that has defined the brand's branding for decades.
Funko’s design team developed this figure to align with their broader Ad Icons line, which honors classic brand mascots that have achieved status as cultural touchstones. By maintaining the mascot's signature red-and-white checkered pattern and wide-eyed, smiling expression, the figure evokes a sense of nostalgia for the golden age of drive-in diners. Upon its release, it was well-received by both fans of the restaurant chain and toy collectors who appreciate the pop-culture significance of corporate character branding.
