Where it came from
Chernabog serves as the terrifying centerpiece of the Night on Bald Mountain segment from the 1940 Disney masterpiece Fantasia. Designed by animator Vladimir Tytla and inspired by the Slavic deity of the same name, the character was intended to be the ultimate embodiment of pure evil. The animation process utilized live-action references of actor Bela Lugosi, who was filmed performing the character's movements to provide a grounded, menacing silhouette for Tytla's draftsmanship.
The Funko Pop! iteration, numbered 991 within the Disney series, captures the demon in his iconic arms-crossed pose, echoing his stoic dominance atop the mountain. Released to celebrate the film's enduring legacy and its unique place in animation history, the figure employs a stark, muted color palette that reflects the dark, atmospheric aesthetics of the original sequence. Collectors often prize this piece as a sophisticated tribute to one of the most artistically significant antagonists in the Disney pantheon.
