Where it came from
The Cherry Slurpee Funko Pop, numbered 92 in the Ad Icons series, was released to celebrate the long-standing cultural footprint of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain. The design draws directly from the iconic Slurpee machine aesthetic, featuring a stylized character whose head is a transparent, dome-topped cup filled with vibrant red liquid, complete with a signature striped straw. This figure serves as a nod to the mid-century innovation of the frozen carbonated beverage, which was introduced to the American market by the company in the 1960s.
Funko’s Ad Icons line focuses on mascots and products that have achieved deep saturation in the consumer consciousness. By anthropomorphizing the Cherry Slurpee, the designers aimed to capture the nostalgic joy of the quintessential convenience store treat. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors who specialize in brand-themed memorabilia, as it translates a simple, everyday commodity into a recognizable and playful sculptural form.
