Where it came from
The Cherry Nerd Pop! figure was released as part of the Funko Ad Icons series, a collection dedicated to celebrating the mascots and brand figures of American consumer culture. The Nerds characters, originally introduced by the Wonka Candy Company in 1983, became iconic for their colorful, mischievous personalities, with the Cherry and Grape duo serving as the brand's primary visual identifiers.
Funko’s design team leaned into the minimalist, anthropomorphic aesthetic of the original 1980s candy box illustrations to create this figure. By translating the two-dimensional cartoon mascot into the signature Pop! vinyl silhouette, Funko aimed to evoke nostalgia among collectors who grew up with the brand. Upon release, the figure was well-received by fans of the Ad Icons line, who frequently seek out pieces that represent childhood confectionery staples.
