Where it came from
Chubby is a figure from the Funko Pop! Movies line, specifically cataloged as number 1622. The character originates from the 1985 classic film The Goonies, where he serves as a pivotal, if brief, comedic highlight during the iconic cafeteria scene. Funko released this figure as part of an expanded wave of merchandise aimed at capturing the nostalgia of 1980s cinema for adult collectors and fans of the cult adventure movie.
The design of the figure leans into Funko’s signature aesthetic, characterized by oversized proportions and a simplified, stylized representation of the character’s panicked expression and specific attire from the film. This design choice aims to translate the humor of the scene into a tactile collectible. It was received as a welcome addition for franchise completionists who prioritize capturing minor characters alongside the core cast of the film.
