Where it came from
The Cthulhu Pop! figure, designated as number 3 within the Pop! Books series, draws its inspiration from the cosmic horror entity created by H.P. Lovecraft in his 1928 short story, The Call of Cthulhu. Funko released this stylized vinyl collectible to honor the foundational influence of Lovecraftian lore on modern pop culture, capturing the creature's iconic tentacled visage and bat-like wings in the brand's signature aesthetic.
This specific Gold Metallic variant was produced as a specialty release, intended to offer a distinct, ornamental take on the standard design. The gold finish reflects a tradition within the collectible toy market to elevate standard figures into limited aesthetic editions. Like much of the early Pop! Books line, it was received primarily by fans of horror literature and dedicated toy collectors who appreciated the juxtaposition of grim, eldritch source material with the approachable, oversized-head design language of the Funko brand.
